The City of Berlin participated in Stadtradeln 2023, also called City Cycling. The Adjust Team joined, along with 1266 other teams.
What is Stadtradeln?
According to the website:
CITY CYCLING is a competition that involves completing as many daily journeys as possible in an environmentally-friendly manner using your bike over a 21-day period. Whether you ride every day or cycled only rarely until now. Every kilometre counts – and even more so if you would have completed the journey by car otherwise.
It’s an initiative to motivate you to use a bicycle more often. Be it for the daily or occasional commute to work, shopping, running errands, or simply exploring the city or countryside. All the while you can join teams, and cycle and collect kilometers for your team. You can even be in multiple teams, like your work team, sports club, family team. But please log every tour only once.
How did we do?
This year, 23 Adjusters took the opportunity to hop on a bike and cycle more. Some of us went on really long tours - the person in first place by distance logged 711 km. Others used the bike frequently, with the highest number of trips totaling 50 in 3 weeks. That’s truly in the spirit of “doing more with the bike.” Some teams also organized trips to Brandenburg and explored the lakes and coffee places.
We “collected” a total of 4032 km, which averages to 175 km per Adjuster over 3 weeks. That’s an average of 8 km by bike per person daily.
And we came in 334th place out of all teams!
Considering that people in Berlin spend a lot of time in public transport, or in cars, cycling offers a viable and quick alternative. Plus, it helps you stay healthy!
Looking forward to 2024!
